ABOUT WHATCOM
YOUTH PRIDE
Formed in late 2018/early 2019, volunteers that comprise the Whatcom Youth Pride Coalition (WYPC) - school staff and educators, parents, and community members - came together with a shared goal of finding ways to celebrate and show support to LGBTQIA+ youth in Whatcom County.

In June 2019, the WYPC hosted one of the nation's only all-youth Pride Parade and Festivals. LGBTQIA+ youth, allies, and their families marched along a short parade route while the community lined the streets with signs and shouts of support. The day culminated in a large festival with LGBTQIA+ youth-focused or allied organizations tabling, food trucks, and a youth-led drag and talent show.

Derailed a bit by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and, for the safety of the community, still avoiding most large in-person gatherings as of June 2021, the WYPC worked with its community partners to find innovative ways to celebrate LGBTQIA+ youth in Whatcom County.

We were back in-person - and better than ever - for 2022. Our best turnout ever showed up and showed out for Whatcom County LGBTQIA+ youth: parade, festival, food trucks, queer youth makers market, and drag show!

And WYP 2024 will be here before we know it...
